1. Overview
This policy explains how Snipboard handles information in the Snipboard macOS app and on this website. “Your Content” means the screenshots, annotations, thoughts, boards, connections, Focus Questions, OCR text, and related context you create or import.
Your Content is stored on your Mac by default. Snipboard does not sell it, use it for advertising, or send it to a third-party AI provider in version 1.
2. Information Snipboard handles
Content you create
Snipboard stores the content needed to provide its visual thinking features, including screenshots, annotations, notes, board layouts, connections, optional capture context, OCR results, source application metadata when available, and AI suggestions you explicitly choose to keep.
Profile and preferences
The app may store the name you provide during onboarding, shortcut choices, capture behavior, active-board selection, review preferences, accessibility-related presentation choices, and whether optional features are enabled. These settings are used to personalize and operate the app.
Purchase and license data
Dodo Payments acts as Merchant of Record for Snipboard purchases. Dodo processes the contact, billing, payment, tax, fraud-prevention, and transaction information needed to complete an order and issue a receipt and license key. Snipboard does not receive or store full payment-card details.
When you activate a license, the app sends the license key and a user-readable Mac activation label to Dodo’s public license service. Dodo returns a license and activation identifier and may process the customer information associated with the purchase. Snipboard stores the key, activation identifier, product identifier, and last successful validation time in the macOS Keychain on that Mac; the credential is not synchronized through iCloud.
Website data
This website does not intentionally use advertising trackers or cross-site tracking. Standard hosting infrastructure may process technical request data such as an IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, and timestamp to deliver and protect the site. When you choose Buy, a server-side function asks Dodo to create a checkout for the fixed Snipboard product; the Dodo API secret is never sent to your browser. Hosting infrastructure may retain security and access logs under its own operational policies.
3. Screen Recording permission and capture
macOS requires Screen Recording permission before an app can capture pixels from other apps or displays. Snipboard uses this permission solely when you initiate a region, window, or display capture.
- Snipboard captures only the pixels you select through a capture action.
- It does not continuously record your screen, record audio, or log keystrokes.
- A capture is saved locally and may be copied to the system clipboard at your request.
- You can revoke Screen Recording permission at any time in macOS System Settings.
You are responsible for choosing what to capture and for respecting the privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual-property rights of others.
4. OCR and Apple Intelligence
Snipboard uses Apple platform technologies for supported intelligence features. Vision OCR can recognize text in a screenshot on your device. When Apple Intelligence is available and enabled, Snipboard may use OCR text, your notes, and local metadata to answer a thinking prompt you initiate.
Intelligence results appear as suggestions. They are not silently added, moved, or used to rewrite your work. A suggestion becomes part of Your Content only when you choose to keep it. On unsupported or disabled systems, normal capture, search, and deterministic resurfacing continue to work.
Snipboard version 1 does not integrate a third-party AI provider. Apple features are subject to your device settings, Apple’s availability requirements, and Apple’s applicable terms and privacy practices.
5. Optional private iCloud sync
iCloud sync is optional. If you enable it, Snipboard uses Apple CloudKit to synchronize eligible app data through your private iCloud database so it can be available on your supported Macs. The data is transmitted to and stored by Apple as part of your iCloud service.
Snipboard does not use a public sharing database for this feature. Your iCloud account, storage availability, sign-in state, and Apple’s service behavior can affect sync. You can disable sync in the app, though copies already stored locally or in iCloud may remain until you delete them through the relevant app or Apple controls.
7. Retention and your controls
Local content remains on your Mac until you delete it, remove the app’s data, or erase the device. Items moved to Trash may remain recoverable until they are permanently deleted. If iCloud sync is enabled, edits and deletions may synchronize to other devices after they reconnect.
You can review, edit, export, or delete Your Content in the app; deactivate a license to release that Mac’s activation slot; change Screen Recording permission in System Settings; disable optional intelligence or sync features; and uninstall the app. Dodo retains purchase, tax, receipt, fraud-prevention, and license records as required for its Merchant of Record services and applicable law. Before permanently deleting content or uninstalling Snipboard, export anything you want to retain.
8. Security
Snipboard minimizes network dependencies and relies on macOS data protections, the macOS Keychain for its local activation credential, HTTPS for license checks, and, when enabled, Apple’s CloudKit security. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Keep macOS updated, protect your device account and license key, and use appropriate care when capturing confidential material.
To report a suspected security issue, contact Snipboard securely. Please do not include sensitive capture content in an initial report.
9. Children
Snipboard is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not require a Snipboard account and does not knowingly collect children’s personal information. If you believe a child has provided information through a support message, please contact us so it can be addressed.
10. Changes and contact
This policy may change as Snipboard evolves. Material updates will be reflected by a new effective date on this page and, when appropriate, an in-app notice.
Questions about privacy can be sent through the Snipboard privacy contact.
